How different is the setup?#

Mintlify needs docs.json before the first deploy: every page you want in the navigation is listed there. Docsbook needs nothing but the Markdown.

Every .md and .mdx file becomes a page, and the sidebar follows your folders in reading order: pages named like introduction or quickstart first, reference, changelog and faq last. Each page's search title and description come from its frontmatter.

Branding and header links are set later, in the panel or by telling your agent.

What does the AI do on each platform?#

Both answer readers from the docs and both have a writing agent that opens pull requests. Docsbook's agent is built to find the next win on its own.

Docsbook fits teams whose docs are Markdown in Git and who want the AI to do the upkeep. Choose it when:

• Your docs are Markdown in GitHub and you would rather not maintain a config file next to them.
• You want reader AI chat and an agent for $20 a month per project.
• You want the docs to improve without a docs team — the agent picks the work and sends it as pull requests.
