Auditing

An audit that starts by reading pages finds what its reader already suspected. An audit that starts from the numbers finds what nobody was looking at.

The order below is the method, not a menu:

1
Locate

Read the numbers before reading a page. Metrics and behavioural detectors say where people are being lost; neither says why.

2
Diagnose

Say what is actually wrong there. Content detectors read the page itself; choosing a lens picks the two or three deeper readings your question and your evidence actually call for.

3
Translate

Say it in the language of the business. A finding nobody can act on is a number, not a finding.

4
Check

Has a change like this ever worked? — and afterwards, did this one?

Docsbook's own analytics are documented separately in Analytics and SEO; this section is about the judgement, not the dashboard.
